I’m so smitten with this Furniture Flip! We started with a plain and simple patio table set and gave it a full makeover by painting and applying napkins with Mod Podge. Napkin decoupage is so fun and the results are stunning. In this video we are also sharing our best tips and tricks for decoupaging with napkins.

It’s all too pretty! I love the Blue China napkins on the patio set. I have also seen great butterfly, floral, fern and collage patterns. Just choose napkins that you love. 2 ply and 3 ply napkins both work. You will only be working with the top layer.

The table before was a dark plain wood. We wanted to make something that would be front porch and lemonade friendly.
I bought the napkins from Tuesday Morning. They have a great selection on napkins and tons of other cool stuff too.
If you have deep creases in your napkins, a quick iron works great. We used Satin Mod Podge to apply the napkins and we topcoat with OUTDOOR Mod Podge. You can seal with any outdoor friendly clear top-coat.
I like to use wide brushes for furniture pieces.

The colored edges are hard to see in the pictures. In this close-up you can see how that extra pop of color and texture really adds to the design.
The chairs were a toss up for design. We went with just adding the napkins to the seat and back.
We didn’t even attempt to pattern match. But as you can see it really is no big deal… the pattern just meshes together.

Steps:
1. Clean the furniture pieces.
2. Paint the areas on the furniture where the napkins will be applied with White Adirondack. Paint the other areas Nautical. The Chalk formula doesn’t need primer. Apply two coats with dry time in between.
3. Top-coat paint the furniture with Titanium White Multi-Surface paint. Use 1 coat over the napkin areas and two coats over the Nautical blue.
4. Once the paint is dry, lightly sand the edges of the furniture so the blue paint pops through. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
5. Prep the napkins. Open the napkins. Cut into the desired shape. We used strips because our furniture was slatted. The strips were cut slightly larger than the slat. Once cut, remove the non-printed napkin plys. Apply Mod Podge Satin to the tabletop. Carefully place the napkin strip onto the Mod Podge section. Smooth the napkin with your finger or a very soft dry brush. Always work from the inside to the outer edge. Make sure you Mod Podge the napkin down the side edges of the slat. Continue Mod Podging the napkins on all the areas where you want you want the printed pattern. Allow to dry and then top-coat with a two coats of Mod Podge Outdoor.
6. Apply two coats of Outdoor Mod Podge to the furniture. Allow for dry time in between coats.
