15 Mod Podge Pumpkin Makeover Crafts

September 16, 2018 · by: Cathie Filian

In our latest, “Make it with Mod Podge Live” we are getting crafty with faux or fake pumpkins. We have 15 different design ideas for creating everything from glittered looks to velvet covered pumpkins. This video is almost an hour long so you can see we dive deep into techniques and design ideas.

If you have crafty friends….. be sure to share and pin this post!

For the pumpkins we used Mod Podge. We used a combo of formulas including: Gloss, Satin, Fabric, Sparkle, Mega Glitter Gold, Mega Glitter Silver.

Fall Leaf Covered Napkin

The napkin covered pumpkins were created by removing the the top-printed-ply of the napkins. You will discard the other plys. Fold the napkin back up and snip across the folded area where the corners all meet. Open the napkin. Cover a small pumpkin with Gloss Mod Podge. Place the napkin over the stem of the pumpkin and with a paintbrush, gently press the napkin down and around the pumpkin. Turn the pumpkin over and gather the excess napkin to the center bottom. Trim any bulk as needed. Use Mod Podge to seal the bottom. Dry overnight.

Day of the Dead Napkin Decoupage Pumpkin

To create the Day of the Dead pumpkin….. you will need to pick-up some Day of the Dead themed napkins. I got ours at the Dollar Tree. Separate the napkin plys so you are only working with the top printed layer. Cutout the skull motif. Apply Mod Podge to your pumpkin. You can use Gloss, Matte or Satin. We used Satin Mod Podge. Place the napkin motif on the pumpkin and working from the inside out gently brush the napkin down. Use the paintbrush to smooth any wrinkles. Wait about 2 min and then top-coat with more Mod Podge.

Coral Pink Velvet Minky Pumpkin

The velvet covered pumpkin was done in the same fashion as the leaf napkin covered pumpkin. The only difference is that we used Fabric Mod Podge and glued a felt circle to the bottom. You will need a pice of fabric large enough to fit around your pumpkin…..then just fold and snip the corner like on the napkin leaf pumpkin.

Patchwork Fabric Covered Pumpkin

This fabric covered pumpkin is so easy to make. All you need is some favorite halloween fabric and Fabric Mod Podge. For this design we used fabric by Tim Holtz. We found the fabric at Jo-Ann Fabrics. To make this design, you will need to cut your fabric into square patches. Cover the back of the fabric pieces with Fabric Mod Podge. Position onto the pumpkin and press with your fingers to secure. Smooth with your fingers to work the fabric into the grooves of the pumpkin. Continue to add square patches in the same fashion. Overlap the pieces as needed. Once the entire pumpkin is covered, top-coat with a layer of Fabric Mod Podge. Once dry, glitter the stem of the pumpkin. Add a coat of Mod Podge to the stem and sprinkle glitter over the Mod Podge. This works on real or fake pumpkins.

Gold Glitter “waterfall” Pumpkin

For this pumpkin all you need is a plain faux pumpkin and Mod Podge Mega Glitter in Gold. Oh and also a paintbrush. Let’s chat about brushes…. I like to use a flat 1″ brush for this technique. In the video we go into detail about what brush to use and how to use it. You will want to begin near the stem of the pumpkin. Add a healthy about of Mega Glitter to your paintbrush. Dap it near the stem and then move your brush towards the base to create a feather edge. Do this all around the stem. Allow to dry and repeat 3 more times.

Spiderweb Pumpkin

For this design we coated a fake pumpkin in Fabric Mod Podge and wrapped lace web fabric around the pumpkin. We used hot glue to secure the fabric around the stem.

Hint of Sparkle

Add a hint of Sparkle to a faux pumpkin with Sparkle Mod Podge. Just add as many coats of Sparkle Mod Podge as you wish.

Glittered Pumpkins

Add a coat of your favorite color of glitter to a small pumpkin with Gloss Mod Podge and ultra fine glitter. Begin by coating the pumpkin with Mod Podge and then sprinkle glitter onto the pumpkin. Allow to dry and if desired seal the glitter with a top-coat of Mod Podge Gloss.

Washi Tape Pumpkin

Add pieces of Washi Tape down the seams of a pumpkin and seal with Mod Podge so your Wash Tape stays put.

15+ Pumpkin Crafts to Make!

Pink and Purple Rose Halloween Fall Pumpkin

We used rose scrapbook paper and Satin Mod Podge to create this romantic and rustic design. Just cutout a floral motif from your favorite paper and coat the back with Mod Podge, place on the pumpkin, smooth with your fingers and top-coat with more Mod Podge.

Doily Pumpkin

Create a sweet pumpkin by gluing doilies to a kraft paper pumpkin with Fabric Mod Podge.

Spiderweb Paper Mod Podge Pumpkin

Add paper cutouts to a pumpkin with your favorite formula of Mod Podge.  Want a gloss look? Use Gloss. Want a Matte or flat look? Use Matte. Want a satin / low sheen look? Use Satin.

Yarn Wrapped Pumpkin

Fabric Mod Podge is your best friend if you want to make a yarn wrapped pumpkin. Start at the stem and glue and wrap until you reach the base.

Glitter Dipped Pumpkin

Apply Mod Podge to the lower portion of a pumpkin. Dip in glitter. Once dry, top-coat with Mod Podge Mega Glitter.

Fabric Pumpkin

Use the same technique as the 1st design in this blog post to create this spider web design. Apply Mod Podge to the stem and glitter the stem to add lots of pop.

These purse charms are easy to make with small toys. A few tips!

Use beading wire and not stretchy cord. This helps with durability.

When drilling toys, use a drillbit that is slightly smaller than your eye screw. Add a drop of clue if you would like to have a little extra security.

I like to add jump rings to the ends of my chains, so I can easily take them on and off purses.
