We are sure that you have seen the sad abandoned baskets at the thrift shops and yard sales. We are always keeping our eyes out for ones that are prime for Mod Podge makeovers. This one with the flat side slats was perfect for painting and applying strips of decorative paper with Mod Podge. So next time you see and old basket imagine what a little paint and podge can do!
What we used:
FolkArt ® Acrylic Colors – Red Velvet, 2 oz.
FolkArt ® Acrylic Colors – Violet Pansy, 2 oz.
FolkArt ® Acrylic Colors – Olive Green, 2 oz.
FolkArt ® Acrylic Colors – Buttercup, 2 oz.
FolkArt ® Acrylic Colors – Autumn Leaves, 2 oz.
Mod Podge ® Matte, 8 oz.
Foam paintbrush
Slatted basket
1.5 wood disk
Wood letter
6 1/2” wood beads
Scrapbook papers
Scissors
Hot glue and glue gun
Velvet ribbon
Raffia ribbon
Silk leaves
Decorative ribbon

Instructions
Paint every-other slat on the basket a different color of Folkart paint. Paint the wood disk, wood letter and the wood beads with the color of your choice using the selected colors.
Cut strips of paper to fit on the slats and a circle to fit the wood disk. Working with each strip of paper, coat both sides with Mod Podge, position on the slat and topcoat with more Mod Podge. Use your fingers to press out any air bubbles. Smooth your brush strokes. Continue until the entire basket is covered.
Apply the circle paper to the painted wood disk in the same fashion using Mod Podge.
Hot glue a band of velvet ribbon around the top edge of the slats on the basket.
Thread the beads onto the raffia ribbon. Tie the raffia round the handles. Hot glue the leaves to the end of the handle. Hot glue the letter onto the wood disk and then glue the disk to the top center of the leaves. Tie a decorative bow around the handles.
Fill the basket with fresh fruit, faux or real mini pumpkins or breads.
