I recently had the pleasure (and pain….LOL) of making over 80 cone Christmas trees for our Jingle Bell Breakfast at the girls pre-school. The event was so great and the girls had an absolute blast!
The old gym was decorated to the nines with handmade decorations, the pancakes were delicious and for Delilah the visit with Santa was priceless.
Poor Sophia is still scared of Mr. Claus. This is her face when she saw him. Poor Baby.
This is the box of 80 cardboard cone trees that I inherited for a makeover. The Jingle Bell breakfast is a fundraiser so the idea of recycling something from a previous year was a HUGE plus. They were originally glittered with red, green, gold and silver glitter. Then they were spray painted different shades of blue and white for a frozen theme. My theme was a traditional Magic of Christmas theme…… so it was back to green and red glitter for the recycled cone trees. I think the cone trees were originally purchased from the Dollar-Store.They are made of a sturdy cardboard. All these designs would work on styrofoam trees as well.
For the glittering, I used Mod Podge gloss and chunky glitter. I really like chunky glitter for this application because it covers a large area quickly. Also, the clean up of chunky glitter is much easier than ultra-fine glitter.
I used a large poster board folded in half as my glitter surface. I coated each tree with Mod Podge gloss and then sprinkled the glitter over the trees.
I used the Mod Melter to attach a huge variety of items to the trees. Some of the decorations were from my personal stash of goodies, others were purchased for cheap at my local dollar-store and craft-stores.
Design ideas are endless. These trees are great for using up old scraps. Each tree can be different.

1. Santa Tree
- Glitter the tree red.
- Glue white fur around the base and a small bit to the top.
- The bow is from the Dollar-Store. Glue to the center.
2. Modern Felt Holly Tree
- Glitter the tree with white/silver glitter.
- The trim was ribbon for gift wrapping. Glue a strip down the center.
3. Snowflake Tree
- Glitter the tree turquoise blue.
- Glue small snowflakes to the tree. These snowflakes are from my shop.
- Glue gems to a lage snowflake and glue the snowflake to the center. This snowflake was from a pack of 12 at the dollar-store.
4. Candy Cane Yarn Wrapped Christmas Tree
- Begin at the top. Glue the yarn to the top to secure.
- Wind the yarn down the tree. Add a drop of glue every now and then to secure. Glue the end to the inside or bottom of the tree.
- Glue a pompom to the top to finish off the look.
5. Vintage Style Gold Christmas Tree
- Glitter the tree gold
- Attach a cluster of felt holly leaves and berries to the center. Add pom-pons for extra pop. I cut the ribbon that was featured above.
- Glue red tinsel around the top to finish off.
6. Snowflake and Candy Cane Yarn Tree
- Glitter with Green Glitter
- Glue the yarn to the top and wind your way to the base. Glue to the base.
- Glue a dollar-store snowflake to the bottom.
- Glue a Pom-pon to the top.
7. Cheap and Easy Tinsel Wrapped Tree
- Glitter with Gold Glitter
- Glue turquoise blue tinsel around the tree.
8. Bows and Pom Pom Christmas Tree
- Glitter the tree green.
- Glue a pom-pom to the top.
- Glue bows, rhinestones and small pom-pons to the tree. The bows were from the dollar-store.
9. Minimal Snowflake Tree
- Glitter Turquoise Blue
- Glue a snowflake to the top
10. Vintage Style Green Holly Tree
- Glitter the tree green.
- Glue pom-pon to the top.
- Glue clusters of felt leaves and pom-pons to make holly.
11. Super Fast DIY Christmas Tree
- Glitter the tree gold.
- Glue and wrap with red tinsel.
- I told you it was super fast. 🙂
12. Pom Pom Party Hat Christmas Tree
- Glitter the tree green.
- Glue Red tinsel around the base and top.
- Glue pom-pons around the tree.
13. Jingle Bell Tree
- Glitter with white/silver glitter.
- Glue holly leaves and jingle bells to the tree.
14. Twine Wrapped Glitter Christmas Tree
- Glitter the tree green.
- Begin at the top. Glue the twine to the top and wind down. Secure the bottom with more glue.
- Glue a pom-pom and bow to the top.
15. Simple Yarn and Silver Glitter Tree
- Glitter with silver glitter.
- Glue and wrap yarn around the tree.
- Glue a pom pom to the top.

We had glitter everywhere…… Eddie just about fired me from any more projects! I had a blast making all the trees and I love love love how they all turned out.
